Publisher's summary

Everything you need to know to begin working with the Tarot.

If you’ve ever wanted a Tarot reading or wondered what it takes to read the cards yourself, Tarot for Beginners from best-selling author Lisa Chamberlain offers an informative first look into this long-trusted tradition.

While most guides to the Tarot are centered on a specific deck, such as the Waite-Smith, the Tarot of Marseille, or other decks ranging from the well-known to the rather obscure, Tarot for Beginners takes a different approach. Here, you’ll find a broader perspective on the Tarot as a whole, with basic card descriptions that can be applied to any deck, and used in tandem with any descriptions that accompany the deck you’ve chosen to work with. So no matter which Tarot deck you use, the information in this guide is relevant, providing a solid starting point for a skill you can carry with you for a lifetime.

Reading the Tarot successfully takes a combination of learning, practice, and developing your intuition. Tarot for Beginners will get your journey into the cards well underway, with plenty of valuable information:

  • The evolution of the Tarot, from 15th-century Italian playing cards to profound oracle
  • A comprehensive overview of the deck, covering the roles of the Major, Minor, and Court Arcana
  • Individual descriptions of each card
  • Beginner tips and exercises for developing your Tarot reading skills
  • A breakdown of the basic three-card spread and the 11-card Celtic Cross, two of the most widely used spreads in contemporary Tarot
  • Tips for choosing your first deck and getting acquainted with your cards
  • Suggestions for creating a conducive space for successful readings

If you’re ready to start learning the art of the Tarot for yourself, listen to this audiobook!

Gives you a basic understanding

If you could sum up Tarot for Beginners in three words, what would they be?

This book gives you a good foundation to start with.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I got the hardback and underlined things.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Tarot for Beginners?

I've understand the meanings of the cards and know how to start putting them together for a deeper picture of what they are saying.

Good Basic Starter Book

Reviewed for friend who was intrested in learning about doing her own tarot readings. Great basic book for beginners. Delves into the history briefly, and then goes through all the cards in detail, plus explains how to do two of the most popular readings. Enjoy! Lady Anne ^^ö^^

The narrator’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard

The book could be great but you would never know it because it’s impossible to listen to more than a few minutes of this lady’s voice at a time. If I hear her pronounce Tarot as TAY ROH one more time I think I’ll lose it.

The narrator’s voice makes me want to stab my ears out with sharp pencils

The book was really simplistic to be of much use to anyone. And as said before, the narrator’s voice made want to rip my ears off and then stuff them into the bloody holes.

Ehh...

I don’t really like the way the narrator reads the book out. She doesn’t actually read it word for word, which makes it hard to follow along.

Welcome Beginners

This book offered a bit of everything. The history of tarot was covered as well as the card meanings and how to a reading. Overall, this is aimed at beginners in tarot reading. As someone who's read them for a couple of years, this was a great refresher. The only issue I had was some of the pronunciations from the reader. It was distracting when a word was misspoken or slurred. I recommend this as something to listen to but if you are studying the cards, consider getting the actual book as it is a pain to find the exact cards in the hour-long chapter discussing the meaning of each card.
